|What is the Gospel? The word "gospel" means "good news." So, what's the good news? Before we get to the good news, we have to understand the bad news. The bad news is that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). But how did human beings get into this kind of position before God?
God created the world in love. He created human beings in His image and likeness. Human beings broke God’s one rule and rejected His love. This rejection brought physical death, spiritual death, and the curse of sin spread to everything God created. Human beings were separated from God. They became His enemies and destined for wrath. But God would not let the story end there. In His mercy God began to pursue His lost creatures.
The rest of the story is about what the loving Creator did to set right everything that was destroyed by sin: man’s relationship to God, man’s relationship to man (yourself, others), and man’s relationship to the rest of God’s creation.
Jesus Christ took the punishment for our sin so that we could be forgiven and counted righteous. Jesus Christ is the ultimate and final way God has come to undo the curse of sin, redeem and restore His fallen creatures, and accomplish His original purpose: to make a people for Himself who love Him, share in His glory, love, and joy, and reflect His glory to all the ends of the earth. “You will be my people, and I will be your God,” is a recurring melody throughout the biblical symphony. So is this: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding with steadfast love and mercy. Apart from faith in Christ, people will spend eternity in hell without God. Apart from faith in Christ no one can be counted righteous or reconciled to God.
It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that sinners are made righteous. Only through faith in Christ will we be reconciled to God and spend eternity with Him.
Have you trusted in Christ for eternal life? Have you turned from your sin to the God who shows mercy? Do you consider Jesus Christ most valuable, most precious? You can know God and be reconciled to Him this very day if this message speaks to your heart and shows you that you have not trusted in Christ.
Admit to God you are a sinner. Acknowledge that you have sinned against Him and ask His forgiveness. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). It is IMPOSSIBLE to be made right with God based on our own efforts. We cannot be good enough. We cannot be righteous apart from trusting in Jesus' righteousness for us.
Believe that Jesus Christ is God's Son, the Savior, and that He gave His life on the cross to reconcile you to God. (1 Peter 3:18).
Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Tell others what Christ has done for you!
"Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved" (Romans 10:9-10).
